In the section Title “Kingdom of God” Nolan discuses what he believes the kingdom of God actually is. He formulates his answer through question such as-- Is it something that resides within us or something that is around us? Do we choose to take part in the Kingdom? and Will the kingdom come after a after the great catastrophe or as an alternative?--- My questions are What is your idea of the Kingdom? and What kind of guidelines or parameters due you use to create your idea of the Kingdom? Is it time, personal ability to relate, a saving grace……..
My idea of the kingdom of God is an eternal place where there is love, unity and happiness. Although that the kingdom of God is a place where we live for eternity with God, it also refers to the kingdom here on earth. The kingdom here on earth is the relationship that one has with family and friends. Through those relationships we are able to experience the presence of God’s unconditional love. Our parent's and siblings’ unconditional love allow us to experience the kingdom through the unity and love present. One can be in the kingdom of God if they form a loving relationship with someone. As Nolan said, the kingdom of God is possibly something that resides within us. If we love others as God loves us, then we are already experiencing the kingdom of God. Lastly, the kingdom already is around us it just takes a matter of faith to believe in it.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of the Kingdom of God for me is a state of mind. This is collected from experiences, people, and just everyday things. The Kingdom can be seen anywhere from a peaceful forest to a crowded street corner. Depending on how you look at it, it could be there. I had a personal experience during Kairos where i found the Kingdom of God with the guys i spent time with. It really showed me that it could be found anywhere if you look for it. The only thing that restricts someone from reaching the Kingdom of God is their choice. If a person is looking for it then they will find it, but if they do not look for it they will have a more difficult time finding the Kingdom. This "Kingdom" can be found in almost anything from a miracle to just talking with your friend. Once one has reached this point then he or she recognizes each person for who they really are.
ReplyDeleteI think my ideas of the Kingdom come from my thoughts and beliefs of God and how he plays a role in my life. My interpretation on the Kingdom has changed alot since going on the Ignatian Retreat. I have learned alot about how God's love surrounds us and my favorite quote from the retreat was: "The goal of our life is to live with God forever." God loves us and gives us life and our goal to respond and allow God's life to flow into us. Also I believe that death is just one step in becoming closer to God and living in the Kingdom forever. I am not afraid of death as i was before. Because i know i will be with God in the Kingdom and be always be happy with God. I also believe that experiences have a lot to do with a person's interpretation of the Kingdom. Every individual has had so many different moments of their lives that help shape their ideals of God's Kingdom.
